Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna at The Royal Albert Hall

Over the years, I have heard so many people talk about Cirque du Soleil but had never gotten around to going to see any of their shows. Last week, I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening night of Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna at The Royal Albert Hall. I’ve been to the Albert Hall once before to see a Teenage Cancer Trust gig and absolutely loved the venue so I was very excited to be going there again – and to have the pleasure of seeing Cirque du Soleil there no less!

After a slight delay on the trains due to the snow (talk about timing!), I met Mr H and a friend at South Kensington. We picked up our tickets and headed inside. The Royal Albert Hall certainly didn’t disappoint and was just as amazing as I remembered it and I couldn’t wait to see the show.

The show premiered in 2012 and has been touring around the world ever since. They previously had a stint at the Albert Hall last year and have taken residence again and will be there until 26 February.

Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna is based loosely on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”. Set on the island of Amaluna where Queen Prospera is directing her daughter Miranda’s coming of age ceremony. The show celebrates female empowerment with a 70% female cast and an all-female rock band too.

Ultimately, Amaluna is a love story. With stunning costumes that sparkle and light up the stage. Music, acrobatics and more, I was enthralled by it all. I was in awe of how flexible these women were and completely jealous of their figures!

The stage rotates over the duration of the show ensuring you get to see what is happening at all angles. It also means that no matter where you are sitting you get a good view. We were in the Circle area and although we looked down onto the stage we didn’t miss a thing.

Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna lasts around two hours with a short 20-minute intermission in between. This gives you a chance to stretch your legs and grab a drink.

If you’ve been thinking about seeing Cirque du Soleil and have never been before I would recommend you go. It’s hugely entertaining and what better venue than at The Royal Albert Hall? Tickets range from £31.50 – £61.50 and can be purchased through their website.
