Ways to save money around the home

I’m sure it’s the same for most people but a huge chunk of the money we earn goes straight out of our accounts to the pay the mortgage. The rest is then split into paying for essentials like food, bills and travel (to work). This usually means there is not a lot left over to try and save money for a rainy day.

Here are a few ideas on how to save money around the home:

One of the main things to look at is how to reduce you energy usage around the home. We use energy saving lightbulbs which not only saves us money (up to 80% on the cost of electricity) it also reduces carbon dioxide usage. We kitted out our house with these a while ago now and have really seen a difference.

Switching appliances off when not in use is another easy way of saving money. I am guilty of leaving the TV on standby and leaving my charger plugged in and the cost of these little things all add up!

We also live in a hard water area which means limescale build-up can be a problem. It can clog pipes and reduce water flow too. I’ve come across the combimate which looks to be a low-cost easy solution to solving this problem. As well as reducing energy bills it extends the life of your boiler too.

Did you know by washing your clothes at 30 degrees you can use around 40 percent less electricity a year? We have been washing our clothes at 30 degrees for a while now so it’s good to know we are saving some pennies just by doing this.

Do you have any tips on how you can save money around the home? I’d love to hear them!
