Family dining at CAU, Kingston

We were recently invited to try out CAU’s new set menu. CAU, Kingston is set in the fabulous location of Riverside Walk and is an Argentinian restaurant with an Italian/Spanish twist. I’ve been to CAU a few times before, but this was the first time we were dining as a family.

Once seated, the boys were given an activity sheet which also had their food choices on the back. The menu had a range of options from Tacos and Pasta to Fish & Chips and Burgers.

They were given some cucumber sticks and tomato along with a hoummous dip to start. M loved the fact that they had made a smiley face.

Both boys opted to have the burger and fries with E having the breaded chicken one and M having the beefburger. It would have been lovely to have had the option to add some veggies to the meal, but the boys enjoyed their meal nonetheless.

Everything sounded so good on the set menu that Mr H and I had difficulty in choosing what to have. In the end, I opted to have the Shrimp Chicharron to start which was lovely and crispy and came in a delicious Amarillo sauce.

Mr H had the Chorizo Empanada which was a traditional Argentinian mini pasty filled with chorizo and cream cheese.

For our main, we both decided to have the steak with Mr H opting to have the slightly larger 250g steak which came with chips (I had sweet potato fries) and a rocket salad.

We were both impressed with the steaks – they were cooked just how we liked them and probably the tastiest steaks we’ve ever had. Unless you were really hungry, I don’t think you’d need to pay the supplement (£3) for the larger steak.

For our desserts, E chose to have the Marshmellow Twizzlers dipped in chocolate sauce, and Mr H had the Dulce de Leche pancake. Both M and I went for the churros.

E’s dessert was huge – it came with six marshmallows! He shared some with M but struggled to finish them all, although he did give it a good go.

Mr H’s dessert had not one but two Dulce de Leche pancakes and ice cream which he was very pleased about.

The churros won hands down for me though. Dipped in the dulce de leche sauce and biting into the crispy coating with cinnamon sugar was just divine. I could have easily had more!

We were really impressed with our meal at CAU. The set menu is fantastic value for money. It’s £16 for three courses and £13.50 for two courses. I don’t think there are many places you can have a three-course meal that includes steak for that price so we will most definitely be visiting again.

CAU has over 20 restaurants dotted around the UK so if you haven’t already, pop in and give the set menu a try.
