5 easy snack ideas for kids

My boys are constantly hungry; they are forever asking for snacks. Since we’ve been homeschooling again its been a real juggle to make sure the snacks they are eating are relatively healthy.

I need something easy for them to grab while they’re on their breaks or something that is super easy to rustle up and keep them full until lunch or dinner time.

If you’re in the same situation, here are 5 easy snack ideas for kids to try out.

Trail Mix

Combine nuts with seeds and dry fruit, and you have an easy snack. You could use little cellophane bags to make these up in advance, so you have a stash of them to hand when you need them.

Easy snack ideas for kids: Popcorn

My boys love popcorn – it can be so moreish! Their favourite is a mix of sweet and salt together. A quarter bag of popcorn contains 1.6 grams of fibre, so not only is it healthy; it also helps with fibre intake.

Nutella Banana Boats

Chop a banana lengthways and spread on some Nutella. You have a super easy-to-make snack that tastes delicious! You can also try adding some sliced strawberries on top or some other (not so healthy) variations by adding cream, marshmallows, sprinkles.

Rice Cakes

Rice cakes are only around 35 calories per cake and are low in fat, so they make a great healthy snack. There are lots of flavoured rice cake options available nowadays. However, if you don’t fancy having them plain, like the Banana Boats, you could try different toppings with rice cakes such as cream cheese and cucumber, raisins, chocolate chips or peanut butter.

Easy snack ideas for kids: LOVE CORN

Finally, have you heard of LOVE CORN? We were recently sent a family box to try out. They make a great healthy alternative to crisps, but they still have that crunch you get from crisps, and they are full of flavour.

LOVE CORN is crunchy corn kernels that currently come in four varieties: Sea Salt, Salt & Vinegar, Smoked BBQ and Habanero Chilli. They also have a range of bag sizes; the 20g snack packs are ideal for kids. There’s also the 45g portion size and the 115g which is perfect for sharing.

We were all excited to try out LOVE CORN and loved the fact that we could pick out our favourite flavours. The boys tried the Smoked BBQ bags, I had the Sea Salt ones, and Mr H had the Habanero Chilli ones.

They were a hit with us all and even more so as we didn’t feel guilty snacking on them. LOVE CORN is plant-based, vegan and gluten and sugar-free. They are a tasty snack to have at home – especially since we are all working from home and homeschooling at the moment.

  1. I got some good ideas to try on my little one, she’s loving popcorn right now but we’ve never added rice cakes to the mix. Add on some PB, and it’s a party ^_^
