A few months ago, we were considering doing just that and looking into average house prices proved really useful when weighing up how much we could potentially get for our home, and what our money would, in turn, get us for our next.

Living in Surrey, it’s no secret that houses are more on the expensive side compared to much of the rest of the country. We absolutely love our area but it’s helpful to see places nearby that might get us a little bit more for our money, without having to move too far away. For instance, if you head half an hour west, house prices drop by around £200,000.

It’s good to understand your local area – or desired area – when you’re looking to move. The more you know the market, the easier the search for your ideal property will be. Not only will it provide you with the average house prices for an area, but it can also provide you with a crime rating – super useful if you’re looking to move towns. You don’t want to fall into the trap of moving somewhere that is rife with theft and anti-social behaviour – particularly if, like us, you’re raising a family. For a safe area, look for anything with a rating of 10 or lower.

Finding your next house is a large enough feat – throw moving areas into the mix and you’ve got a lot to think about! As well as exploring an area yourself, looking at a few facts and stats can really help when deciding on the next place you’ll be calling home.
