Lunch at Turtle Bay, Guildford

A few weeks ago, the weather took a turn and it rained pretty much all day. We were booked in to review the new menu at Turtle Bay in Guildford so we braved the cold wet weather and headed to the warm and inviting Caribbean restaurant for a spot of lunch.

Turtle Bay, Guildford is situated at the top of the high street next to TGI Friday. The restaurant is spacious with splashes of colour and is decked out with beautiful fairy lights. It was just what we needed to forget about the dreary weather outside.

The boys were given some activity packs which doubled up as their menu. All dishes on the Children’s Menu came with a choice of fries, steamed rice, rice ‘n’ peas or salad. E went with the Chicken Flatbread and M had the Cheeseburger. The portion sizes were just right for them and they washed their meals down with some juice.

Having previously visited the Staines branch a couple of years ago it was good to see that the menu has been condensed down a little. I’m all for a good variety to choose from but sometimes there can definitely be too much to choose from!

We opted to have the Seafood Sharing platter which came with curried fish, roti flatbread, chilli squid, crispy panko whitebait and sweetcorn fritters. It went down a treat – the boys (as always) stole half of our starter and loved the whitebait and squid whereas I was really impressed with the flavour of the sweetcorn fritters.

Mr H decided to give one of the four new One Pot additions a try. They’re slow-cooked simmering Caribbean dishes of which he opted for the Chickpea and Callaloo curry and it really didn’t disappoint. It was moreish and full of flavour. With scotch bonnet in the dish it really packed a punch too, I found it a little too spicy but Mr H loved every mouthful. If you love spice and curry then I would recommend giving this dish a go. It’s one that will definitely warm your cockles!

I went for one of the new burgers on the menu, the Shack Stack which combined a beef burger along with jerk pork belly. The pork belly was juicy and tender and complimented the beef burger really well.

If you’re looking to escape the busy shoppers in town for an hour then Turtle Bay would make a good choice. The food was authentically Caribbean and delivered plenty of flavour and children are also well catered for.

Turtle Bay would make a great place to meet up with a group of friends or for a celebration in the evenings and weekends.
