Our Autumn reads

Autumn, it’s not a season I am particularly fond of if I’m honest as it means the transition from Summer to Winter. The boys have settled well into nursery (for M) and Year 1 (for E) and now we are watching less tv its given us more time to pore over books, games and toys. Here are just a few of the things we have been reading over the past couple of months.

The boys have been reading…

Aliens Love Dinopants

When aliens crash-land in the jungle, they have no idea that they are about to stumble on the biggest stash of pants ever.

The Aliens have crash landed into a jungle in search of more underpants and this time they come face to face with dinosaurs! This is another great book from Claire Freedman and Ben Cort (their eighth collaboration) We have previously reviewed Monsters Love Underpants and the boys loved this story just as much as the others. These books are always colourful, easy to read and most of all funny!

Imaginary Fred

Sometimes, with a little electricity, or luck, or even magic, an imaginary friend might appear when you need one. An imaginary friend like Fred…

Told from an imaginary friends perspective Imaginary Fred is a really sweet book about friendship. Fred is the best imaginary friend he can be but each time the child he’s friends with makes a real friend Fred fades away. This all changes when he meets Sam. They become the best of friends and with apprehension Fred knows that one day the time will come when it will be time for Fred to fade away again. However this time… things work out differently then they ever did before.

My boys really enjoyed this story – it’s something that is very different to what they have read before and E asked lots of questions about Fred as he’s never had an imaginary friend before.

Super Shark Encyclopedia
E has been obsessed with Sharks for a good while and has been wanting this book since we saw it in Waterstones back in the summer. It’s a fantastic, informative and educational book packed full of brilliant photos of sharks and deep sea creatures. E loves exploring this book and is currently asking lots of questions I can’t answer so I think I need to read it in a bit more detail!

Mummy has been reading…

A Better Man
Nick is a workaholic who doesn’t spend enough quality time with his wife and children. His wife, Maya throws herself wholly into motherhood and is still breastfeeding the twins who are 3. Their relationship has been going downhill since the twins arrival but neither of them are wanting to face facts. Maya wants Nick to change but Nick wants out and wants a divorce. That is, until he realises that Maya would be entitled to everything. Cue a cunning plan to “change” and be the better man that Maya wants without her finding out his true motive.

I found this a really good read and something that really represents so many elements of how a relationship can change when you have children. I found it hard for me not to scream out at the way Maya was so uptight about the upbringing of her children. I enjoyed the storyline and found it hard to put down the book once I started.

NOTE: I was sent some of these books in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own, images are from amazon.co.uk

  5. We love the pants books – I’ll definately check this one. The discription of a better man sounds intriguing – I know from first hand experience the massive impact having twins has on your relationship. I don’t know if this will make me love and identify with this novel or if it will scare the pants off me!
