Refresh your home with new ironmongery

Spending more time indoors has given you more and more time to look at your house – all its beauties and faults, and then it starts to make you wonder how to improve it. Don’t worry, I feel you. I spend my days looking at interior design ideas and wondering how I can make my house feel more like a home.

It wasn’t until I found Ironmongery Experts, door handle specialists, and their blog posts about all things ironmongery that I thought – what an easy way to give your home a small update which will actually have a big impact on the look of your house. As they mention on a recent blog post, “Ironmongery comes in various styles, designs and finishes, allowing you to make your personality shine through your interiors by choosing the right ironmongery. The days where ironmongery was simply functional are over; modern ironmongery is both practical and decorative.”

Ironmongery includes door handles, door hinges, door locks, coat hooks and many other hardware pieces that are part of your home. Most of the time, we don’t give these pieces attention. However, I believe we should! Any hardware you choose for your home can either be pretty or pretty ugly, and I’m sure you don’t want the latter.

If you want to replace your home’s door handles, it’s important to consider their intended function. As the Oliver’s Madhouse mentions in this blog post, it’s essential to ask yourself where the door handles are going to be installed and who is going to use them. “Are these for passage doors, main doors or cupboard doors? Plus, are these going to be used by elderly people or children? If so, maybe it’s best to choose lever handles instead of doorknobs as knobs offer less grip than lever handles.”

Perhaps you have coloured doors or coloured cupboard doors and are not sure how to pair certain door handle finishes with those colours. This article on Don’t Cramp My Style is the answer! She explains how best to pair door handle finishes with colourful doors, including pairing warm hardware finishes with dark colours and pairing cool hardware finishes with light colours.

Don’t forget the hinges! Studio McGee published an article about how to choose door hardware, where they highlighted the importance of considering the door hinges and perhaps using matching hinges to add extra interest and detail. “You don’t really think about matching your hinges to your door set, but it’s one of those little details that makes a home look more custom.”
