Top tips to save money on your heating bills

Although the weather seems to be a little up and down at the moment there’s no doubt about it – we’re in the throes of winter and that means we’re reliant on switching the heating on to keep us warm. We had a problem with our central heating back in November and I can tell you, it was not fun waking up to a cold house. We ended up buying portable fan heaters to get by in the end. Obviously it more expensive to run compared to gas central heating but needs must, especially when you need to keep the kids warm! Thankfully, we only had to go without for a week and rather than having a whole new boiler fitted, we just needed to replace the fan with a new one. We’re lucky we have a friend who’s a gas engineer and came to do our boiler repair. If you don’t  have anyone to do this for you then you can easily search online for reputable companies eg: boiler repair Leeds to find local repair companies

Heating bills can be astronomical this time of year. Rather than simply choosing to switch it off altogether and embrace the chill there are other ways you can reduce your heating bill. Woolfoot Heating have put together some very useful top tips on how you can save money on your heating bills.

Have a chimney balloon fitted

I have to admit, I’d not heard of a chimney balloon before, but Woolfoot recommend having one fitted as it blocks cold air from entering the house and traps warm air in – genius! Having a chimney balloon installed can reduce your heating bill by around £40 a year. They are relatively low-cost to buy too so its definitely something worth considering.

Lower your thermostat

You can save up to 3% on your monthly bill just by turning the thermostat down by one degree.

Book your boiler in for a service

I have to confess that having been in our house for coming up to 14 years, we’ve not had our boiler serviced and as you read above, this led to it breaking down when there was a cold snap which is far less than ideal. Having your boiler serviced means it will be running at its most efficient and won’t be wasting energy.
