Review: The Spring Tavern, Ewell

We are lucky to have some great places to eat together as a family on our doorstep. Recently we found another pub and restaurant to add to our list that isn’t too far from us – The Spring Tavern in Ewell. We were invited up to try out their menu, so we booked in for a Sunday night to finish off our weekend and I invited my sister along to join Mr H and me with the boys.

The Spring Tavern is a premium pub, bar and restaurant located in the heart of Ewell, Surrey. The interior is beautifully decorated and had a lovely relaxed feel to it. With twinkling fairy lights adding to the ambience and cosy seats, we felt comfortable and at ease upon taking our table. There was a good variety of meals to choose from on the menu. My sister, Mr H and I all ordered a starter, main course and a dessert while E & M chose from the kid’s menu which is £7.95 for a main and a dessert.

The Kids Menu

There was a good variety of meals to choose from on the Kids menu. E is pretty adventurous with his food and had wanted to order the King Prawn Linguine from the main menu as he loves his seafood. However, that option wasn’t available as kids meal, so they kindly offered to add a portion of prawns to the kid’s linguine for him instead.

M chose the Cod Goujons, and they both went for the Triple Choc Cookie with Ice Cream for dessert. I was impressed with the meals – they were well proportioned and tasted good.

What we ordered

Mr H went for Crispy Karage Chicken to start, then the Rib Eye Steak for main and we both had the House Sharer for dessert. His steak was cooked to his liking (medium-rare), and he thought the portobello mushrooms were delicious and went well with the shallots and melted cheese. The double cooked chips were nice and crispy too.

My sister ordered the Lobster and King Prawn Pot to start and then had the Roast Dinner. The Roast Dinner looked amazing when it came out and I have to say I had food envy. It’s possibly the best we’ve had/seen. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside which you don’t tend to find when eating out! Everything was cooked perfectly which is hard to find when it comes to roast dinners.

For myself, I ordered Chargrilled Lamb Koftas to start and had the Pork Belly & Seared Scallops for my main. The Pork Belly didn’t disappoint at all- it was full of flavour and really delicious and the scallops really complimented the pork. The meal was rounded off nicely with the dauphinoise potatoes and green beans.

Our mains were really tasty, and we all enjoyed our picks from the menu. However, we were a little bit disappointed with the starters. Even though they were nice, we felt they could have benefitted from a little more seasoning.

The desserts thankfully were a hit too. Mr H and I enjoyed the House Sharer which consisted of a Chocolate Brownie, Baked Vanilla Cheesecake, a Mango & Berry Meringue Mess and a Vanilla Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich. My sister had the Apple & Blackberry Crumble which rounded off her meal perfectly.

Overall, we had a lovely meal at The Spring Tavern and we wil be visiting again. We’d probably skip the starters next time but it certainly looks like the place to come for a proper home cooked roast dinner with all the trimmings.
