Things you can do whilst the kids are at school

Now all the kids are back at school full time, some mums are finding they have a couple of hours each day to themselves. If your youngest has just started school, this can feel quite peculiar. And it’s definitely not like us to have many moments of peace and quiet! Of course, it can also feel a little unnerving. If you’re not ready to go back to work just yet, you may be wondering what else you can do to make yourself useful. But why not have a bit of fun instead?

Coffee

Drinking coffee on your own can be a little bit lonely. I guarantee you there are several other mums near you right now feeling the same way! Why not touch base with them and invite them over for a coffee and cake one morning? It’s a great way to get to know some new friends. Plus you can compare stories of wayward little angels at the same time. From there you might begin a book club or even a childminding club. Go on – reach out! It’s a nice way to relax at home.

Shopping

Do you remember those days when shopping wasn’t all about groceries and kids shoes? Well seize the day and give yourself a little retail therapy! If you’re worried about the cost, then have a look at offers like the Debenhams discount codes online. You can meander through a shopping centre, or enjoy a quiet browse online. Why not get a head start on the Christmas shopping this year?

Spa

For that ultimate indulgence, you might fancy a spa day (or morning). After all, when was the last time you pampered yourself? Busy mums like us deserve a treat now and again. Get a massage, a facial or a sauna session to feel absolutely fabulous all the way to home time. You could go with a friend and enjoy a lengthy chinwag at the same time, or why not invite your mum along for a wholesome catch-up?

Paintball

Fancy doing something a bit more outrageous behind the kids’ backs? Something like paintballing is lots of fun – whatever your age! And if paintball’s not your thing, why not try go-karting, mini golf, or even trampolining? It’s not just kids that can have fun these days. You can do many of these activities while they’re learning at school, you could even get some other mums together and make it a fun group activity.

Learn something new

Learning a new skill or trying out a new activity could lead to a lifetime passion for it. Have you looked at the courses your local adult education centre offers? What’s happening at your community hall today? Dance classes, learning a musical instrument, or even crochet could become your new thing for life. Pick something that intrigues you, or something you’ve been meaning to try for ages. You’ll meet new people, and you could even earn some qualifications.

Whatever you choose to do while your kids at school, make sure it’s fun. After all, it will be half term soon, and they’ll be looking to you for some entertainment.

What will you do while the kids are out?
