Tips to keep your tyres in good condition

Last year, we traded in our almost 7-year-old Vauxhall Zafira for an SUV (a SEAT Ateca) We bought the Zafira when I was pregnant with M and knew we would need a bigger car to ferry two children around as well as all the baby bits such as prams and car seats. Going for a seven-seater meant we had a huge boot that literally housed everything we could ever need. However, we could count on one hand how many times we used the extra two seats, which is why we decided to buy an SUV. We wanted a car that was a little more eco-friendly yet also had the mod-cons we were after such as USB ports and park assist.

Almost ten months on, we are pleased with our Ateca and having owned a car for a while now, we know how important it is to take good care of the tyres as they are a vital part of your car! We’ve had punctures in the past and buying tyres in Chigwell was never easy but with Elite Tyres you can book your tyres online in just a few clicks making the process quick and easy.

I’ve put some tips together on how you can keep your tyres in tip-top condition.

Regularly check tyre pressure

Tyres need to be at optimum pressure to be able to run smoothly so it is worth regularly checking to make sure they are within the recommended settings for the make and model of your car.

Make sure the wheels are aligned

The same goes for making sure your wheels are aligned correctly. If they are misaligned, your tyres will wear unevenly and will need replacing a lot sooner than anticipated.

Rotate tyres

The tyres at the front of your car tend to wear out a lot quicker than those at the back. By rotating them you will extend the life of your tyres and wear them evenly.

Check the tread depth

In the UK it is illegal to drive with a tyre tread depth of less than 1.6mm but you are advised to replace tyres when they reach 3mm so it is wise to keep a check on this. It’s important to regularly check your car over, especially if you are driving long distance. Performance checks are a good idea so you can catch any minor problems before its too late.
