What wooden flooring goes with which décor?

Homes need to be stylish, reflecting your taste and allow you to relax, but they also need to be practical and easy to manage. Whether you’re looking to completely renovate your home or just doing up a room or two, there’s a perfect flooring option for each interior style you might be considering. Here we have covered the main distinctions of interiors so you can start to get some idea of where to start.

Rustic/farmhouse

So many of us enjoy the stunning natural look of a rustic interior. The striking authentic premise of rustic features allows us all to get a little closer to nature. Your flooring is no exception, with it providing a key element to your interior. Create a statement with beautiful, rustic grade solid wood flooring, with characteristics including dark knots and stumbled edges. Flooring of this kind will, in turn, add character and increase the naturalistic appeal to your space. Don’t be shy with bold colours, a rich chocolate walnut flooring can give your home an affluent appeal all while keeping the rustic presence, or even a whitewashed look can show off a shabby chic appearance. Gentle, peaceful colours work well too, complemented by natural materials such as wool.

Modern/industrial

Typically, a modern interior demonstrates slick, smooth features, everything clean-cut and in quite a plain style. However, a lot of modern homes host more naturalistic looking features than you might expect. But let’s just say for the sake of argument that it’s the fresh modern look you’re looking to achieve. We’d recommend a more discreet flooring, with calmed knots and grains to present a smooth finish. A light or dark flooring would work well too, but we’d recommend a mid-toned honey oak. This is also favourable as it is more likely to go with different furniture and furnishings, therefore if you do decide to mix things up, this easy-going colour will compliment anything you chose. Exposed brick walls are also very stylish. This feature is often found in classic style coffee shops. Use of materials such as glass and brushed steel can also provide your home with that ultra-modern appeal.

Traditional

Even with all the snazzy modern technology of today’s age, there are many of us that still lust after a plush traditional look from a bygone era. It presents highly detailed carved furniture, deep colours, different textures and more accessories. However, this doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice a clean-cut look if traditional is your preference. Ironically, updating different areas can enhance the old-style look.

Classical homes usually exhibit dark, richer woods. Therefore, a darker oak or walnut brown would be preferred with a glossy lacquered finish. However, we’d recommend not keeping everything dark, perhaps opt for lighter walls; then you can get away with darker furniture and floors.

There are endless options for interior themes; we haven’t even scraped the surface of all the options out there! We hope these pointers have given you some inspiration as to where to start and what route you’re going to take. Flooring is essential to your room, therefore getting this right is the perfect place to begin, then you can experiment fully with different themes, furnishings and wall colours!
