Review: Zip World Fforest Coaster

I If you’re a regular ready of this blog then you will know that as a family, we love thrillseeking and we love our rollercoaster rides. When we booked our Christmas break in North Wales we just knew we had to visit the Fforest Coaster at Zip World.

Zip World Fforest

Zip World is all about experiencing adventure – whether that’s indoors or outdoors. They currently have three locations in North Wales, these are: Penrhyn Quarry, Slate Cavers and Fforest. Zip World Fforest is located in the Conwy Valley in Betws-y-Coed and offers a range of forest adventures for you to experience including Treetop Nets, Zip Safari, Skyride, Tree Hoppers, Plummet and of course, the Coaster.

Zip World Fforest Coaster

The Zip World Fforest Coaster is the UK’s only alpine coaster of its kind and is based on a traditional toboggan. Set in 120 acres of stunning woodland, the track spans over 1km and is gravity-driven.

Our Fforest Coaster experience

We had pre-booked our tickets in advance online. The coasters have a restriction of 9+ years and you need to be 1.3 metres tall to be able to ride by yourself. Children aged 3+ can ride with an adult or a driver who meets the 9+ years and 1.3 metres tall restriction. We bought two aged 9+ tickets and one driver with passenger ticket as M is under the age of 9.

There’s a free car park on-site and you need to arrive around half an hour before your start time to check-in.

Your ticket allows you three rides on the coaster with each ride lasting around 6 minutes, depending on how fast or slow you go around the track. We were each given a wristband which is marked each time you ride so the staff know how many rides you have left. We were able to swap around who M went with as a passenger and it worked out that he was able to ride with each of us once around the track.

To get on the coaster, you simply join the queue. Once a sledge is available you’re strapped in and away you go. At the start, you’re pulled uphill before the real fun begins with you zooming down the track. Riders can control their speed by pulling the lever up to brake or by keeping it lowered to zoom around and enjoy the twists and turns. We had SO much fun.

The woodland coaster is a fantastic experience, I think if you’re visiting Snowdonia its definitely something you should try. The boys loved it so much they could have gone on it all day if they were allowed. Tickets start from £20 for a single ticket and £30 for a shared ticket (with one driver and passenger). There’s an optional extra where you can add a coaster camera that captures your ride experience for £8. You receive an edited video and photos.

Other activities at Zip World Fforest such as the Treetop Nets, Zip Safari, Skyride, Tree Hoppers, Plummet are also available if you wanted to make a whole day of it. There’s also an on-site cafe for food and refreshments.
