Our May: Bluestone, Birthdays and The Crystal Maze

May is always a ridiculously busy month for us with three of us celebrating birthdays. This year, it’s been a month full of highs and lows and whilst I won’t go into too much detail, it’s been a pretty stressful time and has made us question everything we thought we knew about someone. On top of that, the terrorist attacks on Manchester which targeted children and most recently London Bridge leave me worried about the world we are bringing our children up in – but that’s another post in itself.

I won’t dwell on the negatives, here’s what we got up to in May.

Bluestone

We kicked off the start of the month with a week in sunny Wales. It was our first time visiting Bluestone and we absolutely loved every minute of it. The weather was on our side and it was just lovely spending some quality family time together, away from the everyday routine of work and school.

We went swimming every day and loved exploring what Pembrokeshire had to offer. A real highlight was Tenby beach which was just stunning.

Watch out for our full blog post soon.

The Crystal Maze experience

I loved watching this when I was younger so when some of the school mums decided to put together a team to go to the Crystal Maze in London I knew I had to be involved.

It was such good fun!

Birthdays

It was the big 4-0 for Mr H this year and we celebrated it in style by having a Eurovision-themed fancy dress party. He decided he didn’t want a traditional cake so we had a doughnut tower instead. 40 doughnuts for every year. It was a lot easier putting that together than it was to bake a cake!

I’d just about recovered from Mr H ‘s party and then it was E’s turn. He turned 7 the week after. We had a Minecraft themed trampoline party for him. His birthday cake was a real labour of love but it went down really well so it was worth the effort in the end!

Bank Holiday weekend

We had glorious weather over the last weekend of May. We took the boys out on their bikes before ending the evening at The Thames Court for a review dinner.

On Sunday, we went to a friends house for a barbeque. I started feeling unwell that night and by Monday morning I could hardly swallow. I had tonsillitis! We were due to be going to a wedding reception that evening and we didn’t make it in the end so it was a bit of a downer to end the long weekend with.

I hate being ill! Luckily, after a few days of rest, I felt much better – just in time for my birthday. It was a low-key affair, after two parties over the last few weeks it was nice to have a quiet one and we just headed out for a meal in the evening.

Good food and my boys are all I need.

So that was our May – what did you get up to?
