My London: LackaDaisy

In this week’s My London we have Tanja from LackaDaisy telling us about the places in London she loves.

What do you love most about London?
That there’s always something going on. No matter what day or time, you always have the chance to find some activity and meet new people. It’s very changeable and you can always find something new.

What’s your most favourite memory of London?
When I first moved here, I was living in a hostel with some of the most exciting people I ever met. It’s not just my favourite memory of London, it’s probably the best time I’ve had in my life.

If you had to pick one iconic building in London what would it be?
Cone – or The Gherkin as it’s officially called. I remember when it was first built, my mum took so many pictures of it to show us. It’s really an extraordinary bit of architecture of it’s time, which always excites me. I finally managed to convince one of my friends to go take a closer look at it and it was amazing.

If you could recommend one place that’s off the beaten track and away from the hotspots for someone out of town to visit where would it be?
Not sure if this one is off the beaten track since it’s located in the heart of Camden, but I didn’t know about it until a friend dragged me there one day. The World’s End is a unique pub with amazing steampunk thematic. Even if you’re not up for a beer, it’s definitely worth popping in just to admire its interior.

Besides that, Shoreditch offers some amazing street art and subcultural exhibits. Everyone looking for inspiration should go and check it out.

Best place you’ve eaten in?
I don’t eat out enough to be any good of recommendation on this one, but I worked at The Grange Hotel by St Paul’s cathedral few times and they have some killer desserts to offer.

The last theatre productions/show or concert you went to or would like to see?
One of my faves is definitely Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. I love the movie and the show. They’re both so uplifting and inspiring, and I had such a great time seeing it with my sister.

Favourite place to visit on a night out and why?
The Roadhouse at Covent Garden, I’ve been there several times with some of my favourite people. Great music and it’s not too crowded and amazing cocktails.

If you live in London, how long have you lived there for? If not, what makes you visit time and time again?
I have some relatives that live here, so I’ve been visiting ever since I was a child. I first moved here for two months, which were basically just a really long vacation, and finally moved here last November. I don’t plan to stay here forever, but for now, I think it’s the best place to be.

And finally a bit of fun – write the first thing that pops into your head!

O is for….Opportunity
N is for…Noise
D is for…Doom
O is for…Obviously
N is for…Never

  1. I’m so heading to Shoredirch now to create some pretty photos with amazing graffiti backdrops I’ve also heard great things about the worlds end. I’m goinf to see Priscilla in May but in my local theatre so don’t think the production will be the same.
