Having children means there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do to keep them safe and to protect them. That includes making sure that the house is a safe place for them to live and play.

But what about other items that also need safe keeping and protecting? Important documents like birth certificates, wills, passports and special keepsakes?  These items are just as important to keep safe.

Pre-children we used to have an office and logically that was where all our paperwork and documents were kept, but since having children we turned said office into another bedroom and our paperwork has been stuffed here and there into drawers ever since.

I need a better solution though so I have started thinking about investing in a home safe. This would house all irreplaceable documents and keep them in a safe place should we ever be in the unfortunate situation of a house fire or burglary. As well as important documents I could also use it for keeping valuables such as jewellery.

Aside from that I think a good visit to Ikea is needed so I can buy some decent storage and try to find a way to carve out a nook somewhere around the house so I can have put desk with some shelves to store things like household bills as well as a noticeboard to pin important school and nursery dates to remember.

Maybe once that is all in place I will finally feel like I am on top of it all? I will certainly feel better knowing that our important documents have been secured in a safe place.
